The effort, a dwindling value

There was a time when the effort was synonymous with health, happiness, pride ... Mahatma Gandhi, for example, claimed that the reward was in the effort, not outcome. These attitudes are, like many others, a reflection of what happens in our society. Adolescents who seek their lives openly display; boys only motivate apathetic to social networks, students take all subjects to perform and are proud of it or permissive parents who can not or do not know to limits are some of the consequences of this sort of social apathy. It seems that the ability to work is a value crisis. And the official response does not help much. In fact, the measures taken by the Government aimed at containing only poverty and unemployment, but do not generate real work. This may account for the diverse range of social programs which the State distributes cheeky. Those principles that made our country great, based on the effort and work, and have no place in the minds of a generation that claims the right to receive an allowance without working, (almost like a salary) and that also claims as an obligation of the State provide adequate housing and other social services without any compensation. This is not to question the legitimacy of subsidies to help people who can not obtain income from their own. Or the need (real in many cases) to implement transitional unemployment benefits or the use of public funds for emergencies. These are common policies in the world and are based on criteria of basic social solidarity. But it is true that the proliferation of so-called social plans triggered an alarming number of people who choose not to work and also provide compensation for the money they receive from the State. Money going out, yes, the pocket of those who do work and pay taxes.
Some families joining two social plans with the universal child allowance earn a monthly income that allows them not to seek or accept work. Thus, it can Argentines say there have not seen their parents work. And, worst of all is that negative social situation is, for many, a virtue: There is no dishonor in not working. Something that our grandfathers was a shame.
Amartya Sen, winner of the Nobel Prize for Economics, says that human welfare is to develop the skills and talents of the people, not their purchasing power. You can then talk about development when people are able to do more things, work and create, not when they can buy more goods or services.

In this scheme, education system has a fundamental role. Today, in schools, care much that the guy does not drop out. So every time they demand less and allows more, resulting in students with low level and almost no professional qualification. Thus, the message seems to be: do not give up anything, living without complications and avoid work. What does then the culture of effort in a society that is committed both to the indulgence? First, it represents a change of attitude. The state could, for example, build the workforce of those subsidized, to give further impetus to public works. Or maybe engage in the maintenance of public squares and parks. But above all, the culture of effort must first be passed within the family.
